Sun City Resort, located in the Bojanala Region of North West Province, South Africa, utilized the lockdown period announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on March 26, 2020, to perform routine maintenance across its hotels, casino, and water parks. A key project undertaken was the rehabilitation of the main water supply pipeline at the Valley of the Waves, which was experiencing significant water loss of thousands of liters weekly.
Orsco (Pty) Ltd conducted a thorough investigation using CCTV inspection, pipeline location, pressure testing, and other condition assessment systems. The findings revealed numerous issues, including misplaced joints, broken and jammed butterfly valves, multiple pinhole leaks, and material degradation due to the pipeline’s age (over 28 years old). The entire pipeline was in very poor condition.
Based on the survey results analyzed by our surveying technicians and lining rehabilitation engineer, Mr. Alaster Goyns, we recommended the rehabilitation of the DN500 pipeline. These recommendations were communicated to Mr. Bret Hoppe and Mr. Thulani Malinga of Sun City.
