The challenge
Newcastle University faced a significant issue with a vital DN250 steel water main leaking beneath a heavily trafficked main road.
The challenge was not just the leak but the complexities involved in addressing it. Excavating an 80-meter stretch under roads, footpaths, and a web of utility lines was daunting, potentially exorbitant in cost, and highly disruptive to the university’s daily operations and the surrounding community.
Recognising the impracticality of a traditional “dig & replace” approach, the University sought a partner capable of innovative problem-solving. Mullane Trenchless PTY Ltd (MTPS) was contacted for an alternative solution.
After a comprehensive CCTV inspection and assessment, Mullane Trenchless proposed using the ASOE high-pressure ‘pipe-in-liner’ “W” series liner. This world-class, non-invasive the product promised to be cost-effective and
transformative.
The outcome
By the following morning, water flowed uninterrupted through the newly relined
pipeline. The road remained undisturbed by construction, avoiding chaos and major disruption. Newcastle University could resume normal operations swiftly, acknowledging the minimal disruption and the exceptional quality of the
work performed.
